Does the quality of solar products and installation effect its long-term performance?
Synopsis
When it comes to solar systems, quality should be the top priority. Choosing cheap and inferior products can lead to water ingress, faulty switchgear, and even fires. That's why it's important to invest in high-quality products, even if it means spending more money. Future-proofing is also crucial, as the right system should meet your needs not only today but also for the longer term.
Investing in the right installer is equally important. Some customers have become orphans due to cowboy operators who cut corners and use subpar products. This can lead to product recalls, fires, and other safety hazards. By choosing the right installer and high-quality products, you can ensure a lower cell denigration rate each year, giving you peace of mind and a reliable solution for your needs.

One of our mandates when we started the business was that, we're very conscious due to the young nature of the industry, that there's a lot of cheap inexpensive solar systems even getting deployed back then. And we were quite wary. Unfortunately in recent times, the last couple of years we've seen a bigger uptake, of queries for orphan customers out there who their panels have suffered water ingress. Which made a lot of customers, potential new customers go, Ooh, that's not good, when you tell them some of these stories. You can't stress enough in regards to the quality that needs to be deployed. And we look at the monetary costs, more of as secondary. We say to a lot of customers that if you need financial requirements you're better off doing it because poor man pays twice. We hear that time and time again, if they can afford to spend a little bit more and make sure they get the right size system that's going to meet their needs. But not only meets it today but future-proofing because that's very important.
It definitely pays to pick the right installer over the years, we've experienced first hand. Some customers have become orphans, and the so-called cowboys situation has arrived, where they've just made too many shortcuts use inferior switchgear product. Some of them have been recalled, some have even caught fire. No one wants that. It definitely pays to invest in the high quality products. Yep, obviously, understandably, it does cost more but once people have got it, it's less cell denigration rate each year. And because of that, people feel more comfortable, and peace of mind that they're going to get the right solution for their needs for the longer term.
