What are the benefits of solar power systems for farmers?
Synopsis
The cost of electricity has been a problem for many rural properties, and it was becoming a big issue for this property. To solve this issue, they moved to a solar booster system for their electricity. Solar power has been a natural progression for them and they haven't had any issues with their standalone solar system in the hills.
Everyone should consider solar power because it has many advantages, including being cheaper to install and having no power bills. Although the initial cost may be a concern for some people, the payback period is insignificant and it's a no-brainer to install a solar system on your property.

The cost of electricity was starting to get pretty well out of hand. A lot rural properties like ours, we supply all our electricity for all their staff, all their housing is supplied free of cost. And it was becoming quite an issue for us, between that and the workshop which was quite a big user of power as well. And of course, there was a lot of publicity around for the last several years now about solar power. And so it was a natural progression for us to move in to total solar booster system for our electricity as well.
In my opinion, everyone should be on solar really. It's such a huge advantage having the sunlight, you've got the sunlight right in front of you every day. Apart from the grid supply, there's always faults with that with tree going over lines or one thing or another. So we got that initial solar setup there, it's a huge advantage. We have another property up in the hills ourselves, which is a standalone solar system up there. It's been absolutely fantastic, it ended up being cheaper to install than putting the grid power across. And plus, we've got no power bills at all. We run a five bedroom house up there and never had an issue at all, that whole time. It's been up there for probably three or four years now as well.
As far as putting a solar system in yourself on your own property, it's a no-brainer really. There's just too many advantages to ignore. A lot of guys I know, I'm always surprised that more people haven't gotten solar on. It's I think maybe initial cost upsets them a little bit, but really, the payback period is insignificant really. We're talking about three or four years and you've got it done and dusted you know, and then your power's a hell of a lot cheaper.
