What is a micro inverter and why should you consider them if you're buying high quality solar panels?

Synopsis

A microinverter is a more efficient system for converting DC power from solar panels into AC power for use in a home. Unlike traditional central point inverters, microinverters operate at the panel level, allowing each panel to operate individually and at maximum potential, even if one panel is down on performance due to shading or soiling. This also allows for flexibility in design and easy expansion in the future.

Microinverters are not only efficient and high-performance, but also safe due to their lower voltage than DC systems. They provide a complete, long-lasting system that can be compared to putting a V8 engine in a Ferrari. Utilizing microinverters is a smart choice for anyone looking to maximize the potential of their solar panel system.

So a microinverter inverts the DC power of the panel to the AC power inside the house, so it can utilise it in the house. And the microinverter is an inverter at panel level, so it's a more efficient system rather than having one central point inverter. It means that each panel operates individually. So if one is down on performance whether it's through shading or soiling, the others aren't going to be effected. So you're picking the highest point or the maximising the highest potential of each panel. I really like microinverters; One, it gives us flexibility in design, so we can position panels where we can, where they're best suited for the low profile of the customer. Two, they're very safe. So, traditionally they're lower voltage than a DC system. And they're expandable, so if a customer wants to add to them later on, we can easily add to them without too much trouble or cost.

So there's a lot of benefits in microinverters which we like. I certainly think if you're going to put a good efficiency, high-performance panel on, you should put microinverters on. I use the analogy about if you buy Ferrari like a micro-inverter, you want to put a V8 engine in it. And so you're going to get the complete system, a really high performance system, a safe system, a system that's going to perform for a long period of time.
