What was the win-win that made Murray install solar panels on his home in Kiama?

Hello, my name is Murray and I'm in Kiama. This five-bedroom house with a study on the south side of Kendalls Beach is where I grew up. The house is powered by energy used by three generations of occupants, predominantly for lighting, cooking, and general use.

Although I've been considering solar power for years, moving around for work made it difficult. Recently, we settled back into the house, and I decided it was time to take the plunge. The motivation behind buying solar was to become more self-sustaining while also being environmentally conscious and saving money on power bills. As prices continue to rise each year, it makes sense to invest in solar for long-term benefits.

It's a fantastic place where I happened to grow up a long time ago. So the house is a five bedroom house with study, and the energy is used by three generation of occupants in it at the moment throughout the day. Predominantly it's lighting, I work from home during the day. It's supporting very active and inventive cooking in the kitchen. It's general use.

I've been thinking about solar for a number of years, it has been challenging for me because I've had to move around with my work. And in the last 12 months, we came to actually settle back in this house after a number of years and I thought now it's time to do it. The motivation around buying solar was mostly around the environment, our ability to actually be more self-sustaining in this house, but also obviously the fiscal side of things kick in too. Price of power is enormous, this was an opportunity to mitigate that and also to actually do our bit around the environment. And I think that makes it win-win. At the moment my prices seem to be going up every year, and that's predominantly probably because of the the mix in the use of power on this property. But to me, it makes sense in the longer term to actually go solar.
