What were the environmental and economic benefits to installing high quality solar at Kedron-Wavell?
Synopsis
We are at Kedron-Wavell Services Club, Chermside, Brisbane, where high energy bills are a common occurrence. The goal of this commercial solar installation is to reduce the bills, so 100 kW of LG 400 watt neon two panels, and 82 kW of inverter capacity have been installed. The curved roof of the club posed a challenge for the installation, but the use of high-efficiency modules allowed more wattage in the limited roof space.
Springers Solar has been chosen as the premium installer for this project, which ensures that the right products are used. This project will not only help the club to reduce its carbon footprint but also provide economic benefits. Financial planners make the decision on whether the project can proceed, and the carbon savings are a bonus.

- We're at the Kedron-Wavell Services Club at Chermside, on the north side of Brisbane. A club like this has very high energy bills, very high energy consumption, so what we're trying to achieve here is a maximum reduction in bill. The brief was from the client to maximise their energy reduction, so we tried to fit as much solar as we could on the roof. Four hundred watt, LG panels, solar edge optimisers, 100 kilowatts of solar, 82 kilowatts of inverter capacity.
So this is a commercial solar installation utilising LG 400 watt neon two panels. By using a high efficiency module, we're getting more watts per square meter, which equates to less weight, so, it did mean that we were getting more wattage in the limited roof space we had. The curved roof was quite a challenge. We've got flat rigid panels on a curved roof. It's our best structural roof according to our engineer, so we had to maximise the installation up there. The lay out of the ray is purely based on what our engineer would allow us. We had to stay close to this wall of the curved structure, because that's where our main supporting beams are underneath.
So, we're just maximising the amount of energy we can get in this area of the roof. Multiple challenges. On a commercial site like this, you need to know that your installer knows what they're doing, that they're using the right product. That's why we chose an LG, premium equipment, premium installers in Springers Solar, and then everything just goes together nicely and works smoothly. Kedron-Wavell Services Club have a real community vibe, and a community feel. As to be part of the community, to reduce their carbon footprint, to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, but it is driven, more so, by economics. Financial Planners make a decision on whether this project can proceed. The carbon saving, that's the bonus, you know, the economics are the driver.
