Why are higher quality solar panels better for multi-story buildings?
Synopsis
The solar panel testing that took place was to ensure that the panel is of high quality. The test showed that it can withstand 6kPa, which is higher than the force of Cyclone Tracy that devastated Darwin in 1974. This means that it can be installed on high-rise buildings with confidence, as it is cyclone rated and has been tested to meet Australian standards and Darwin's strict building regulations. The 40mm frame, screwed on the corners, makes it even stronger. This positive outcome is a result of the panel being built to last, with a 25-year manufacturing warranty, giving customers peace of mind.
Compared to cheaper panels, this one stands out as a good quality option, as it can withstand extreme weather conditions. The manufacturer's wisdom in putting a screw hole in one particular panel caused it to fail at 2kPa, highlighting the importance of investing in quality. Darwin's tough building regulations are among the strictest in the world, so the fact that this panel has met those requirements is a testament to its quality. Overall, investing a little extra in a good quality solar panel means that customers can have confidence in their investment and installers can have peace of mind when installing it on a customer's roof.

Well, the test today was about testing the quality of the panel. It gives us installers, the confidence to install a good quality system on to a customer's roof. The testing here today is showing us that the solar panel will come up a little bit higher than what the Cyclone Tracy was, that destroyed Darwin on Christmas Day in 1974. This one went to just over six, 6kPa would mean that we could put onto a four or five story building here in Darwin and have confidence in doing that. It's cyclone rated. It's been tested now to Australian standards and to what is required in Darwin. Is because Darwin has the toughest building regulations in the world. Not just in Australia but in the world. So this panel has come after that. One of the reason it's a 40mm frame, screwed on the corners, so which makes it a lot stronger, look, it's definitely a positive outcome.
Most of the cheaper panels, don't come up to anywhere near this. Is one particular panel that in the manufacturer's wisdom, that put a screw hole here where this one is failed. So it reached about 2kPa when the whole thing failed. So it failed right where that screw hole was. Well after Cyclone Tracy where, people know the damage that was done here. The area where we're actually standing now was probably one of the worst affected areas from Cyclone Tracy. When you consider that a lot of places that were left, was a bathtub and a toilet bowl. So this will withstand that providing the house stayed together. My expectation was around about what we got, and it's a good quality panel, put it together in a good quality system.
At the end of the day, people pay a little bit extra and they could know that they're going to put something with quality up on their roof. It's built to last. With 25 years manufacturing warranty and gives you a peace of mind. Gives us as an installer confidence to install a good quality solar panel on a customer's roof.
