Why is it cheaper over the long-term to pay more for a higher quality solar power system?

Synopsis

As an engineer and a consumer, I strongly recommend investing in quality solar panels made of Australian-compliant materials. Going for cheaper options may seem like a good idea at first, but it will undoubtedly cost you more in the long run as you will have to redo the entire process with a better system. By purchasing a decent panel and hiring a professional installer, you will not only save money, but you will also get high yield, better output, backup, and customer service. Moreover, having a superior product installed on your roof adds value to your home in the long run.

Cheaper installations often lead to leaky roofs and the use of panels that do not meet the expectations of harsh Australian conditions. The glass and frame of such panels tend to deteriorate within seven to eight years, which means it is more cost-effective to invest in a quality system that will last longer. Investing thousands of dollars in a solar panel is a significant investment, and you want to make sure it lasts. With a great warranty to back it up, you can change it over if necessary without any additional costs.

I definitely believe both as an engineer and as a consumer that I'd rather spend that little bit more money, get the quality, get the workmanship, get materials that are Australian compliant. If you buy cheap it will cost you double inevitably because you do have to go through the entire process all over again and you would be doing it with a better system after you've learnt the first time. It will be much cheaper if you do go straight ahead and buy a decent panel and you get your decent installer, it will be cheaper because end of the day you're getting a decent product, you're getting high yield, you are getting a better output into your grid, you're getting the backup and the customer service, and you are getting a far more superior install and product on your roof, and it's an investment end of the day, and it does add value to your home.

Getting a cheaper install done and either leaky roofs, again leaky roofs are a big thing. Using a cheaper panel just don't live up to the expectations and our harsh conditions. Quite often, in having seen products after seven, eight years, the deterioration on the glass or the frame, and it could only be five to seven years old, but at the end of the day it will cost you double because you have to reinstall a whole new system and you go through the entire building process all over again. End of the day you're investing, you know, thousands of dollars, you do want it to last, and then you got the great warranty to back it up to change it over if you need to.
