Why is it financially and environmentally better to buy a higher quality solar power system?

Synopsis

When it comes to solar energy, the main reason people are interested is to reduce their electricity bills. This is due to the significant rise in electricity prices over the last 5-6 years. However, another important factor driving people to buy solar systems is the desire to make a positive impact on climate change. This is especially true in Canberra, where many customers are focused on sustainability.

It's crucial to think long-term when considering a solar system purchase. Investing in a cheap system that will only last a few years is not worth it. Instead, homeowners should look for high-quality panels that come with a 25-year warranty. In Canberra, people are quality-focused and committed to reducing waste, which is why investing in a long-lasting system is so important. The environmental benefits of solar energy are the main reason why many people, including the writer, believe it is such a crucial part of our sustainable future.

When people are looking at solar, really the main driver is to reduce their electricity bill. Electricity prices have been rising over the last five to six years quite considerably. Electricity bills are on thing, but probably the second thing is obviously doing something about climate change. It's particularly evident in Canberra, we find a lot of our customers are very focused on that and that's another driver for them to buy a solar system. I think the key thing here is thinking long-term, you know there's no point going out and buying a cheap system, that's only going to last you three to four years and then you're back replacing those components. There's no point buying a cheap system and then having that fail after three to four years.

When they're buying systems, you really need to be looking past 10 years, and ideally, if you're buying a really good quality panel, you'll get a 25 year warranty out of it and the system will last you that long. So homeowners in Canberra are quality focused, probably more so than any other region that we're focused on. And I think that's a fantastic thing. The worst thing I can think of is all of those cheap panels going to landfill in such a short amount of time. Having a panel that lasts you and an inverter is really important. Buying quality means that you're going to have a system that last that 25 years. I know what we do needs to be a profitable business, but the environmental aspect of this is really the reason I got into it. I see solar as a very key part of our sustainable future and the way to tackle climate change.
